I’m very excited because I got picked to travel as member of the debating team and all four of us are getting billeted out .(I’m a bit nervous about that.)

Our timetable is firstly we go up to belmont on a bus all 80 of us. There’s the basket ball team the girls netball the debating the soccer the rugby, I think that’s all and all of those teams put together equals up to 80 children on a bus and half way we swap onto their bus and they go on our bus so each bus goes back to thier schools.

After our journey up there we go into belmont intermediate and they put on a powhiri for us at the end of hte day we meet our billet and go home with them and we go to bed and go to sleep.

The next morning we get up and meet at school at nine o’ clock and all our students go on a trip somewhere on a bus and get back after having lunch and then the time for sport we have a whole afternoon of sport we go home with our host family and get ready for another day.

Our last day in belmont before we head back we spend some time in their class room and get to know some of their classmates then we say our goodbyes and jump on the bus to go home.

I’m really looking forward to going and staying in Belmont I will put a post on about it after I’ve been there and share my highlights and experiences.

Nothing!

Written on August 4, 2008 – 4:43 pm | by jiordie

This week I couldn’t think of anything to write about so I’m writing about nothing at all and the most nothingness thing i can think of is a can opener. Then it gets me thinking who invented them and why so my piece of writiing this week is not on nothing its on can openers, well the person who invented cans was Peter Durand and he invented them out of iron which made it very heavy, so a can opener could only be invented when the tin cans became lighter. The old instructions on the back of the can were ’cut around top near outer edge with a chisel and hammer’ all that fuss about opening a can of food for a snack. So the first can opener invented was by Ezra Warner of Waterbury Connecticut this was 50 years after light tin cans were invented. And the weird thing was that The first can opener was kept in the shop and the salesman had to open each can before they left the shop.

The modern can opener with the wheel that goes round the rim was invented by William  Lyman of the united states in 1870. So there you go that’s all you need to know on the most nothingness thing I can think of!

Imperious strikes again!!

Written on August 2, 2008 – 11:53 pm | by jiordie

On monday night me and my dance group went to the college for a talent quest. We werent competeing we were just on show but still good practice.  Leeza had two dance groups that just performed for show and shecompeted in her lipsync group called Mysterious4 that was really funny we also learnt a dance called the boom-cha-boom.

At the end all the performers had to go up on stage and they had a kapa haka battle and a krump off.  I went on stage for the kapa haka battle which was against Otorohanga and copied Leeza my dance tutor because she went to Te Awamutu College( the kapa haka dance was from T.A College).

The junior imperious group were really cool they were one of the best groups. Overall I had an awesome night and lots of fun.

Dancing in hamilton

Written on July 20, 2008 – 6:11 pm | by jiordie

On Sunday the 6th of July me and my hip-hop dance group went to the river lea theatre in Hamilton to compete. We had performed there before and got commended but now we had a better dance to show the judges and our costume was neat our make-up was neat every thing to us was perfect except for the category we got put in. It was jazz and because of that we only got commended we are a hip-hop group and we should have been put in a hip-hop competition my dance teacher Leeza was really angry about it and so was everyone else. We think we at least deserved a highly commended or even third but it just depended on the judges I guess.  My Aunty and two of her friends came to watch so did kelela and after we had performed we waited for the results and we were a bit guttered, not to worry we had  another competition on the Tuesday but I’ll tell you about it another time.

Last night me and my best friend Kelela at five o’clock were getting dressed to set off to our school disco and of course the theme was 70’s at first we thought nah we’re to cool for that then we fully got into it. I wore a bright orange jumpsuit with the puffy sleves and a HUGE afro wig I even had the 70’s peace necklace and my platforms were so high i couldn’t walk so i had to take them off to dance the music was awesome and i had an awesome time Kelela didn’t get into it as much as i did she dressed up tobut she didn’t have the hair or the shoes but she did have the top the top she had was green with swirly designs and huge as sleves .

I won a prize for best costume and i danced and had an awesome time Thank-you student council for putting on such an awesome disco.

Imperious

Written on May 30, 2008 – 9:21 am | by jiordie

Imperious you are probably wondering what it means, well imperious means undefeated and the best.

That is what my hip hop dance group is called and on Saturday night one week ago our group performed at the Te Awamutu community church in a talent quest There were singers and dancers and even some guest performers like the Levites and a dance group called XXL who travel alot and are really awesome because they practice something like 20 hours a week.

As I was saying we got there and we had to sit down and wait they called our name and we went up on stage pumped up as we got into position I was getting nervous and then adrenaline rushed through me and all i had to do was dance and i did i danced as hard as i could then there was the wait after to see who came 1st 2nd and 3rd they announced that third was the flight of the Concords tribute band because they did it well and it was funny as.

then second we thought it was us then they said it was woody a man who got up and sung…in about five different languages and with an accent and the judges gave woody second because he was original.

then first we thought we hadn’t got a placing but we had FIRST imperious won it was the most exciting thing ever we all screamed and jumped on our  seats we went up to grab our prize which was a huge basket full of mini chocolate bars and heaps of tubes of MnM’s then they gave us a warehouse gift card but it didn’t say for how much and also a CBR voucher for 50 bucks so that was my night at the talent quest and to night i have got a performance at founders theatre and i’ll surely write a post about that when i get back.

Ohope Camp 2008

Written on April 27, 2008 – 8:01 pm | by jiordie

Last week rooms three and seven went to Ohope Cristian camp for three nights

Day 1: we departed for camp and boy it was a long trip, i was g in Kaitlyn’s car with Nicky kelela Naveen sarah Michelle and Kaitlyn’s dad then first we took a lunch stop at lake Okataina  we came to camp, unpacked and explored that was fun then we departed for whakatane pools the hydro-slide was so much fun.Once we got back we had dinner  (spaghetti and meatballs)then it was lights out.

Day 2:We got a wake up call from some very annoying boys in room seven banging on our door yelling breakfast is ready at like seven o’clock then after breaky we set off for the high ropes  i really enjoyed the group activities were fun but also challenging then after that we departed for the amazing maize n maize we did this in our car groups and we basically got lost every ten seconds but when i got lost i got lost with Kaitlyn but she did have the walky talky so we soon got found then as we couldn’t finish it our goal ended up being to find the haunted house so once we found it we forfeited then we departed back to camp.

Day three:We got our own back on those boys at camp we woke up early to tell them breakfast was ready when it wasn’t but on our agenda that day was kayaking first so off we went kayaking o.k this isin’t so bad i’ve been kayaking before but i was wrong i have eczema and salt water do not go well so my legs were all rashy and boy they hurt so i got out early then i got changed ready for Shelly bay we walked up a big as hill then down the other side then we were there, Shelly bay and since nobody wore shoes it hurt but walking back across the beach was fun because we found pipis all along the beach and i ate one and it was yum we all up i think found about twenty pipis the rest we used for bait at our next stop, fishing this was last on our agenda for today i didn’t catch any fish but Kaitlyn caught a fish about 30 centimeters long and was very proud it was the biggest catch out of every one in our class and Sarah she almost caught a HUGE snapper then after that Mrs Crowe rounded everybody up to go to the awakeri hot pools at a camping ground we had a BBQ after then we were allowed to buy lollies that we all had a feast on that night in the morning we got up to clean and pack up all of our stuff to go home and on the way home we had spare time so we used our money to buy things up town then we stopped at subway mm yum for lunch at the park then we were off home but we had to take a tiki tour because someone(not mentioning names) had to go to the loo then we were right we got back to school grabbed our things out of the school trailer then we waited and waited and waited for our parents to pick us up then we went home after our amazing camp that wouldn’t have been possible without the organization of Mrs Crowe and Mrs Hose thank-you!

Lights

Written on April 15, 2008 – 2:22 pm | by jiordie

The street lights in the towns that never sleep, makes me think and wonder

have the people of this crazy place heard of the moon or the stars and then i suddenly feel privileged that i can look up at night and see the huge moon and the stars at night whenever i want to but the crazy people of this crazy world of ours don’t understand.

Answer to riddle no.1!

Written on March 29, 2008 – 6:49 pm | by jiordie

The answer to riddle no.1 is the bird is deaf because if you look back the shopkeeper said that he would repeat every word he heard and if he was deaf he couldn’t hear anything so he of course he couldn’t repeat it !!
